Advanced Bionics launches Naída CI Q90 sound processor

Advanced Bionics

Sonova Holding AG‘s (SIX:SOON) subsidiary Advanced Bionics said today it launched its FDA and Health Canada cleared Naída CI Q90 sound processor in North America.

The Q90 is the newest release from Advanced Bionic’s Naída line of cochlear implants, and offers the company’s smallest battery to date and new microphone technology that focuses on speech. The device also compensates for wind, reverberant environments and sudden loud sounds, Valencia, Calif.-based Advanced Bionics said.

“We’re proud to deliver innovations that significantly change lives in such positive ways. Everyone is thrilled to introduce a new processor that is smaller in size and bigger in features for the best possible hearing performance in the most difficult listening settings,” Advanced Bionics prez Hansjuerg Emch said in a press release.

The device comes with the comapny’s Phonac binaural VoiceStrem technology that allows it to work with other Advanced Bionic devices to make instant adjustments based on sound levels, as well as compatibility with a wide selection of wireless accessories for streaming speech and media, the company said.

Yesterday, Sonova saw shares plummet as it cut its fiscal year guidance after releasing disappointing 2nd quarter earnings related to weak cochlear implant sales.

Guidance for sales for the year dropped from 7-9% to 6-8% and earnings before interest, taxes and amoritisation were dropped significantly from 9-13% to 3-7%.
