California mobile devices maker iHealth Lab said Tuesday it commercially launched its iHealth Ease app-based blood pressure monitor.
The iHealth Ease is a blood pressure monitor and cuff that is controlled through an app available through either Apple‘s (NSDQ:AAPL) iTunes or Google‘s (NSDQ:GOOG) Android app store.
“Priced under $40 and loaded with advanced features, the app-based iHealth Ease makes traditional, non-connected blood pressure monitors virtually obsolete. The Ease breaks new ground making it easier than ever to track, monitor, and share data with your doctor, as part of a management program to improve overall heart health. We are proud to bring this technology to market at a price affordable for every home,” sales and marketing veep Steve Monnier said in a press release.
The device and application features a triple check feature that measures blood pressure 3 times and returns an average of the results to delvier a more accurate baseline reading, the company said. The results from the triple check are accurate within 3% for pressure and 5% for pulse, the company added.
Data is transferred via Bluetooth to the users iHealth account, which comes with unlimited HIPAA-copmliant data storage space, where the data can be analyzed and shared with doctors and caregivers.
Last September, iHealth said it was undergoing a major shift, fueled by a $25 million investment from Xiaomi Ventures, the company’s 1st institutional round of funding.
The company shortened its name (formerly iHealth Labs) and is expanding into 3 operating divisions: the Americas (based in Mountain View, Calif.), Europe (based in Paris, France) and Asia Pacific (based in Hong Kong).
