Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) is shedding 150 jobs from a customer care center in Dublin, where it recently relocated after its $50 billion merger with Covidien, according to The Irish Times.
The jobs being cut are all from Medtronic’s Dublin-based Cherrywood center, which offers customer support to European clients in a variety of languages, according to the paper. The jobs are slated to be relocated to Poland next June.
“Unfortunately the shocking news was just delivered yesterday and they [staff] are just coming to terms with it. Quite understandably the staff are in a state of shock. They would have felt that their jobs were secure,” Communications Workers Union head of organizing Ian McArdle told The Irish Times.
Medtronic has not commented on the layoffs, and was unable to be reached for comment on the matter, according to the paper.
In October, Medtronic said it planned to eliminate 21 jobs at its Medtronic Distribution operation in Mira Loma, effective Jan. 6, 2016.
