Philips outsources mammogram electronics assembly to Note

Royal Philips (NYSE:PHG) inked an outsourced assembly deal with Northern European manufacturer NOTE to work with its Mammography Solutions division.

The move was made as part of a re-organization of Philips operations in Solna, Sweden, according to NOTE. The outsourcing will utilize NOTE’s assembly capabilities, including complex assembly in a clean room environment.

“We went into the supplier selection process with limited experience of NOTE, but were immediately impressed by the culture, people and the top-class capabilities at their facility in Norrtälje. This was also confirmed through our formal audit process. NOTE will be a partner that can give us the engineering and manufacturing support we need, combined with flexibility and geographical proximity. We see a clear, consistent theme in NOTE’s values, working methods and communication, from management to the factory floor, and this makes us feel secure” Philips mammography solutions senior manager of operations Ivan Davegårdh said in a press release.

Philips Mammography division produces the Philips MicroDose full-field digital mammography unit designed for the early detection of breast cancer. The partnership will cetner around this unit and its detector module, the companies said.

The partnership fits perfectly, Philips is a customer with high standards, and that is what we like the most” NOTE CEO Henrik Nygren said in prepared remarks.

“Our strengthened capabilities and ISO 13485 certification continues to pay off,” NOTE managing director Martin Gutberg said in a prepared statement.
