3. Philips touts managed care data for COPD treatment
Royal Philips said new research reports that non-invasive ventilation is a key part of a multi-faceted interventional approach to reduce readmission rates among chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients.
The study, supported by Philips and published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, examined COPD patients hospitalized 2+ times a year who transitioned to patient management programs that included noninvasive positive pressure ventilation, Philips said. Read more
2. St. Jude Medical goes ‘invisible’ with wireless spinal cord stim-trial device
St. Jude Medical said that it won approval from the FDA for its Invisible Trial app for testing its spinal cord stimulation devices.
The wireless neuromodulation system uses Apple iOS devices, specifically an iPod touch for the patient and an iPad mini for the treating physician, and an external pulse generator that connects the stimulator and the Apple device via Bluetooth, St. Jude said. The system is able to deliver both traditional and burst stimulation modes, which have been shown to reduce paresthesia. Read more
1. Fujifilm Submits 1st PMA module for digital breast tomosynthesis
Fujifilm Medical Systems said it submitted the 1st module of its FDA premarket approval application for digital breast tomosynthesis as an upgrade for its Aspire Cristalle mammography system.
The module is the 1st to be submitted for FDA PMA modular review with plans to submit the remaining modules within the coming year, Stamford, Conn.-based Fujifilm Medical Systems said. Read more
