Hospira, Philips win Defense Dept. contracts worth $68m

The Department of Defense said yesterday that Hospira (NYSE:HSP) and Royal Philips (NYSE:PHG) won contracts with the defense agency for $50 million and $18.8 million, respectively.

Hospira won a contract with the Defense Logistics Agency for $50 million to supply the department with pharmaceutical products, the DoD said. Hospira topped 35 other companies vying for the competitive acquisition, according to the defense agency.

The 1-year base contract will come with 7 option periods and will provide services to the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and federal civilian agencies, according to the DoD.

Philips $18.8 million contract with the Army Medical Command will position the company to supply the Air Force and Army military with biomedical equipment for the defense groups military treatment facilities, the DoD said.

Financing and work locations for the contract will be dependent on the orders, according to the defense agency.

In August, Leidos won 5-year $900 million Department of Defense product research and development contract with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command. Leidos, based in Reston, Va., is a science and technology solutions company that works mainly in in national security, health and engineering.
