NuVasive launches new spine platform internationally

NuVasive Inc. (NSDQ:NUVA) said Tuesday it is launching its Integrated Global Alignment spinal column alignment digital platform in select international markets.

The iGA platform is designed to aid surgeons during spinal column alignments and includes posterior fixation, anterior and posterior implants, updated neuromonitoring and computer-assisted surgical planning technology, the San Diego, Calif.-based company said.

We believe this new platform marks a significant advancement in the historical approach to spine surgery with revolutionary technology to help drive better patient outcomes in surgery through the global alignment of the spine with the only integrated surgical platform that allows for intraoperative reconciliation to ensure global alignment is achieved. Following on the successful launch of iGA in the U.S. earlier this year, we are pleased to expand access to our most innovative solutions as NuVasive leads the way as a clear technology disruptor in the global marketplace,” Int’l exec veep Jason Hannon said in a press release.

In a letter to investors, Leerink Partner analyst Richard Newitter hit on what he called ‘under appreciated’ aspects of the launch.

In the letter, Newitter said that the iGA platform would support future product development for years to come, and “in our view could have greater-than-anticipated ‘pull-through’ to existing and future NuVasive products (i.e., helping NUVA to garner greater share of overall spine procedures).”

Newitter also commented that the launch would help NuVasive drive better inventory management and asset efficiency, due to better pre-operative planning, and would allow the company to reach surgeons and accounts that they previously had not interfaced with.

NuVasive said all the newly launched components and technology will be displayed at the Eurospine conference in Copenhagen, Denmark this week.
