BiOM rebrands again, shifts to BionX

BionX Medical TechnologiesPersonal bionics maker BiOM said it shifted its brand again, moving to the moniker BioniX Medical Technologies. The change is the 2nd for the firm, which moved from the name iWalk to BiOM previously.

BionX, based in Bedford, Mass., produces the BiOM T2 bionic ankles and smart prosthetics that seek to restore normal function of limbs to amputees. The bionic ankle uses computer processors to adjust the ankle’s stiffness and propulsive torque to emulate muscle function.

“Our company was founded to revolutionize the prosthetic device industry by providing products, based on our bionic platform, that enable patients to have more freedom in their lives. Over the last year, we have made significant progress towards achieving this goal, having fortified our corporate organization, disciplined our commercial execution and continually expanded our IP portfolio and product pipeline. Our new name helps communicate our commitment to offering bionic solutions that restore normalized limb function and improve quality of life. We are continually inspired by our patients who strive to achieve their greatest potential,” CEO Dr. Charles Carignan said in a press release.

BionX said the change was to “better reflect its commitment to delivering bionic solutions that address critical unmet needs in the market,” according to a press release.

The company said it is currently looking to expand insurance reimbursements for its devices, expand its international commercial market and launch new products.
