Gobiquity raises $6m for mobile pediatric eye-scanner

GobiquityMobile vision tech company Gobiquity said today it received a $6 million investment from InterWest Partners to close its Series B financing round.

Funds from the round are slated to be used to support commercial growth, product development and global expansion, the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company said.

“InterWest Partners continues to support our mission to enable early detection and prevention of vision impairment through broad access to specialized mobile technology. At Gobiquity, we are committed to evolving our validated, portable and affordable mobile screening portfolio to address both children and adults. We are excited about this release because it provides us with more opportunities to detect and prevent vision impairment for a market of more than 285M people who suffer from vision impairment, of which 80% (World Health Organization, 2014) is treatable if identified early,” CEO Andrew Burns said in a press release.

Last year, Gobiquity launched its GoCheck Kids mobile vision screener which combines photoscreening and digital visual acuity testing. The company touted that the screener has been used in over 100,000 screenings, with an average of 3,000 childreen screened per week.

“Gobiquity is changing the standard of care through its innovative mobile vision screening tools, which are already making a significant positive impact on the awareness and treatment of serious eye disorders, helping to prevent visual loss in even the youngest patients,” InterWest Partners managing director Dr. Gil Kliman said in a prepared statement.
