Royal Philips (NYSE:PHG) and Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM) subsidiary Qualcomm Life said today they inked a collaborative, strategic technology deal aimed at developing connected health solutions.
The collaborative deal will partner up Philips’ connected health informatics and regulated health care cloud data tech with Qualcomm Life’s medical-grade device connectivity and integration, the company said.
“As the home is fast becoming a viable care setting, care providers, home health agencies, and other institutions are increasingly using connected care to reduce emergency care, readmissions of patients with chronic diseases. By collaborating with Qualcomm Life and leveraging its connectivity and wireless expertise, we aim to help care providers to engage better with their patients and contribute to the goal of improving outcomes. Patient self-management combined with 24/7 connectivity to a care network is an emerging model that enables scalable chronic disease management for patients and providers,” Philips connected care and health informatics CEO Jeroen Tas said in a press release.
The companies said the deal will pair Qualcomm Life’s 2net Platform with Philips’ HealthSuite platform to allow for connection to a large array of connected medical devices with secure connectivity and data capture in hospitals and health care facilities.
“An undeniable leader in the health care technology industry, Philips brings a deep technology expertise to their health care initiatives, and by joining forces we aim to deliver intelligent care to patients and providers at scale. We are thrilled to be working with Philips, enabling Qualcomm Life to continue to grow its ecosystem and ultimately serve as the underpinning of the Internet of Medical Things,” Qualcomm Life prez Rick Valencia said in a prepared statement.
Through the deal, Qualcomm Life customers will have access to build applications, integrate electronic health records, store normlized data, run analytics and manage authorization consents, the companies said.
Earlier this month, Philips announced the launch of a series of connected personal health devices , including a health monitoring watch, scale, blood pressure monitor and thermometer, all designed to be integrated into its HealthSuite Health App.
The company touted the string of devices, saying they provided “personal, tailored support” for people attempting to develop healthier habits.
