W.L. Gore & Associates said today it is launching its DrySeal Flex introducer sheath designed for use with its Gore Excluder iliac branch endoprosthesis device, which is used for the endovascular treatment of common iliac artery aneurysms or aortoiliac aneurysms.
The newly-launched device is designed with improved flexibility, kink resistance and a hydrophilic coating to allow for access in challenging anatomies and branch vessels during endovascular repair procedures.
“Nearly a third of patients being considered for EVAR have an aneurysm that extends to the iliac artery. The IBE is a trusted solution in such cases, but previously no introducer sheaths designed for use with this device existed. With the Gore DrySeal flex introducer sheath, I now have a sheath specifically designed for use with the IBE and flexible enough for easy access to the iliac branch vessels,” Marcus Brooks of North Bristol NHS Trust said in a prepared statement.
The DrySeal Flex valve is designed to minimize blood loss and allow for multiple wires and catheters in the same vessel, the company said.
“The availability of this new sheath provides more options to treat a broader range of patient anatomy. The sheath supports my cases from start to finish, offering confidence for a wider range of applications than ever before,” Dr. Jason Lee of the Stanford School of Medicine said in prepared remarks.
“By linking our tested Gore DrySeal Flex Introducer Sheath with our endovascular portfolio, we continue to make great strides in advancing patient care. We remain committed to making these innovative devices available to treat more patients globally,” Gore aortic biz lead Ryan Takeuchi said in a press release.
Earlier this month, Gore said it won FDA premarket approval for its Tigris self-expanding vascular stent designed for treating peripheral artery disease.
The 3rd-generation dual-component stent features a combination of flexible fluoropolymer and single-wire nitinol and is designed to conform to the natural movement of the knee, the company said.
