Medtronic doles out $1m in Minnesota health access grants

Medtronic PhilanthropyMedtronic (NYSE:MDT) today said its Medtronic Philanthropy arm doled out more than $1 million in health access grants to non-profits in its home state of Minnesota.

The grants, of $50,000 paid out over 2 years, went to 22 organizations selected by Medtronic employees, the Fridley, Minn.-based company said. The grants emphasized groups tackling chronic conditions such as heart disease or diabetes, the company said.

“At Medtronic, we are dedicated to improving lives by promoting the health of all worldwide, and this starts right here in the Twin Cities,” Medtronic Philanthropy vice president Jacob Gayle said in prepared remarks. “We believe that attaining health equity benefits both those in greatest need, as well as the community at large. After all, everyone does better when everyone does better.”

The latest round of grants, worth $1.1 million, are part of a Medtronic program that bestows awards in 36 locations around the world. Here’s a look at the North Star State groups receiving grants in the most recent round:

  • Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery (Minneapolis, MN)
  • Hennepin Health Foundation (Minneapolis, MN)
  • Muslim American Society of Minnesota (Inver Grover Heights, MN)
  • Native American Community Clinic (Minneapolis, MN)
  • Open Cities Health Center, Inc. (St. Paul, MN)
  • People’s Center Health Services: Cedar Riverside Clinic (Minneapolis, MN)
  • Pillsbury United Communities (Minneapolis, MN)
  • Portico Healthnet (St. Paul, MN)
  • Regions Hospital Foundation (St. Paul, MN)
  • Southside Community Health Services (Minneapolis, MN)
