Breathe Technologies touts Medicare reimbursement win

Breathe TechnologiesRespiratory and neuromuscular focused Breathe Technologies said today it won reimbursement from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for its Life2000 ventilation system.

The Irvine, Calif.-based company said the CMS assigned 2 Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System codes for the ventilation system.

“Breathe Technologies recognizes the assignment of these codes as a significant advancement in addressing an unmet need for individuals living with respiratory insufficiency and neuromuscular diseases. We look forward to continue fulfilling our mission to empower healthcare providers and patients with novel, reliable and accessible solutions for respiratory needs,” CEO Larry Mastrovich said in a press release.

The Life2000 system won 510(k) clearance from the FDA in June for patients who require positive pressure ventilation delivered either invasively or non-invasively. The device can be used to treat both acute and chronic respiratory failure, the company said.

“These reimbursement codes further substantiate Breathe Technologies as a leader in developing new, life-enabling technologies for patients suffering from severe respiratory and neuromuscular diseases. Since its inception, the company has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the clinical and patient communities it serves and we are gratified to now have a clearly defined channel in place to ensure widespread patient access and coverage,” board member Dr. Beth Seidenberg said in prepared remarks.

Breathe Technologies said it is hopeful for a commercial launch in the U.S. late this year.
