Agfa HealthCareAgfa HealthCare, the medical imaging business owned by Belgium’s Agfa-Gevaert (EBR:AGFB), last week won a contract with the U.S. government worth up to $768 million.

The 5-year deal, which also has a 5-year extension option, calls for Mortsel, Belgium- and Greenville, S.C.-based Agfa HealthCare to provide digital imaging network and picture archiving & communication system services to federal healthcare providers. The U.S. Defense Dept. said there were 6 other bidders for the contract, which involves providers for the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and federal civilian agencies.

Agfa HealthCare claimed to be the only company to be selected for all 4 of the federal DIN-PACS programs since 1998, delivering some $600 million in products and services.

The latest contract includes imaging systems for federal agencies, integration and support services, the company said, noting that it’s “poised” to unveil an enterprise-level imaging platform “in support of the complex evolution in care delivery systems for the U. S. government.”

“Agfa HealthCare has worked extremely hard over nearly 20 years to establish our dominant position in the U.S. government’s DIN-PACS market,” Agfa HealthCare VP Tim Artz said in prepared remarks. “The high-value partnerships we have developed and continue to grow with our government customers demonstrate our unwavering commitment to deliver the most advanced solutions and level of quality and security that this complex, demanding market requires.”

“Agfa HealthCare is honored to continue its leadership by delivering our innovative enterprise imaging platform to provide the highest quality care for veterans, active duty military members, and their families,” added Agfa HealthCare North America president Bill Corsten. “We eagerly look forward to working alongside these most valued customers, engaging the next round of challenges, and continuing to grow our mutual success.”
