Cantel Medical picks up Accutron for $25m

Cantel Medical, AccutronCantel Medical (NYSE:CMN) said today it acquired Accutron for approximately $52.5 million.

Accutron manufactures nitrous oxide delivery systems and single-use nasal masks, and will be folded into the dental portolio of Cantel’s healthcare disposables segment Crosstex International.

“We are pleased to welcome Accutron to the Cantel family.  The addition of Accutron’s portfolio of high quality, conscious sedation single-use nasal masks and equipment will further differentiate our infection prevention product offering. Single-use nasal masks are critical to eliminating cross-contamination of infectious pathogens between patients, and remains consistent with our strategy of providing customer solutions aimed at infection prevention and patient safety,” Cantel CEO Jorgen Hansen said in a press release.

Accutron reported unaudited revenues of $20.5 million for its 2015 year, and Cantel Medical said it expects the acquisition to be accretive to GAAP and non-GAAP earnings for its 2017 fiscal year and beyond.

“Approximately 45 million dental patients undergo anesthesia annually in North America, with nitrous oxide constituting a significant component of such anesthesia in about half of these procedures. The acquisition of the market leader in nitrous oxide single-use nasal masks and equipment allows us to not only further expand our presence in the dental practice, but also further enhance our comprehensive portfolio of infection prevention products.  We look forward to continuing our drive to provide complete infection prevention solutions for dental practices globally,” Crosstex International CEO Gary Steinberg said in a prepared statement.

In March, Cantel Medical said it closed its $13.5 million buy of North American Science Associates sterility assurance business, which Cantel said it plans to fold into its Crosstex division.

The NAMSA operation, which posted sales of $5.7 million last year, makes biological and chemical indicators designed to monitor the effectiveness of sterilization procedures.

Little Falls, N.J.-based Cantel Medical said the sterility assurance monitoring business manufactures biological and chemical indicators used to monitor the effectiveness of sterilization processes, designed primarily for the industrial segment serving medical devices, life sciences and other manufacturers.
