Apple (NSDQ:AAPL) reportedly acquired Gliimpse, a company that aims to allow patients to assemble and maintain their own electronic health record, for an unspecified amount.
The Silicon Valley tech titan confirmed the acquisition to Fast Company, but declined to elaborate. Founded in 2013, Gliimpse is building a platform designed to collect personal health data, including images, documents and test records.
The buyout happened earlier this year but was only confirmed recently, Fast Company reported.
“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” according to the report.
Gliimpse is backed by Sequoia Software founder Anil Sethi, a serial entrepreneur in the health IT space. Inspired by his desire to assist his sister during treatment for Stage IV breast cancer, Sethi wrote on his LinkedIn page, Gliimpse “solved the hardest medical data problem, aggregation plus standardization.”
“Our product collects data from medical portals – without human intervention – combined with self-entered plus wearable info, all shared with others,” he wrote. “We’re a team of self-funded entrepreneurs with deep roots in healthcare, Apple to SAP, IPOs and startup exits returning $400MM to employees and investors.”
