Texas Medical Centers adds 11 medtech startups to incubator

Texas Medical CenterThe Texas Medical Center Innovation Institute on Wednesday announced the addition of 11 startups specifically focused on medical devices, a 1st for the incubator, as part of its TMCx program.

As part of the program, for 15 weeks the startups will engage and collaborate with “top industry experts” to move their medical devices from concept to commercialization, the group said. Startup companies will also meet with stakeholders at the 56 member institutions within the Texas Medical Center.

“Very few accelerators have a robust program devoted to medical device startups, so we are filling a huge gap in the life sciences ecosystem. Now we are the only accelerator in the country that runs alternating curriculum tracks on med devices and digital health, which will bolster our efforts to attract top talent in health care innovation,”  TMC Innovation Institute director Erik Halvorsen said in a press release.

Included in the new round are ureter identification dev Allotrope Medical, mini-rescue inhaler dev Bloom Labs, constant blood pressure sensor dev Blumio, smart surgical tool maker Briteseed, tendon repair surgical solution dev Flexios, spinal tap device dev IntuiTap Medical, oncology diagnostic platform dev NovaScan, liver cancer cath dev Otricath, dialysis vascular access dev Voyager Biomedical, active exoskeleton dev WeaRobot and imaging dev WestFace Medical.

Companies in the incubator will be giving final pitches to advisors, hospital stakeholders and investors on November 17, the group said.
