OmniGuide picks up Domain Surgical

OmniGuide Surgical, Domain SurgicalOmniGuide said today it purchased FMX Ferromagnetic Surgical System developer Domain Surgical for an undisclosed amount, with the merger closing today.

Domain Surgical is developing the FMX ferromagnetic surgical platform to facilitate precise cutting and coagulation of soft tissue. The device targets soft tissue without penetrating deeper to pass electrical energy to the patient, which OmniGuide said incurs less injury to the surrounding tissue compared against other surgical techniques.

As part of the merger the companies named John Buhler as its new president and CEO. Buhler previously held positions as CEO of RF Surgical, overseeing its $235 million acquisition by Medtronic in July last year.

“Both OmniGuide and Domain Surgical technologies are known for extreme precision and for minimizing unintended collateral damage to healthy tissue during complex surgical procedures. Further, both technologies are designed to increase patient safety and improve clinical outcomes. Merging the companies provides an expanded advanced energy product portfolio that delivers precise cutting, ablation, dissection, and vessel sealing capabilities across numerous sub-specialties. I am excited to be a part of this dynamic team as we grow the company moving forward,” CEO Buhler said in a press release.
